Two critical whistleblower reforms are included in the current tax bill that we need Congress to support.

Amendment 1: Rewards for criminal tax fraud whistleblowers.
As NWC has previously reported, the IRS and Department of Justice have argued that whistleblowers who report criminal tax frauds, such as those committed by Swiss banks, should not receive a reward! This means whistleblowers would have little incentive to take the huge risks of reporting.

Amendment 2: Stop double-taxation of whistleblower rewards.
Some whistleblowers may be subjected to an unfair double-taxation due to a terrible decision by the U.S. Supreme Court. The decision was overturned by the Civil Rights Tax Reform Act, but some whistleblower laws may still not be covered. Both of these amendments address issues critical to oversight, accountability and whistleblower protection.

Regardless of where you stand on the overall tax bill and whether it passes or not, once Congress is on record supporting these essential whistleblower reforms, we will be in a much stronger position to move the reforms forward.
